If you read my last blog, you know recent travels took me to the Windy City. You’re also aware the running gods relegated me to hotel treadmills.
My optimism blossomed anew this week as I boarded a plane for Philadelphia. After a meeting there Monday night, I was off to Manhattan and — you guessed it — a planned run in Central Park.
I picked the closest Marriott to the park (https://www.marriott.com/reservation/availability.mi?isarch=true&propertyCode=NYCMH). I even blocked the run, which has been on my bucket list a long time, in my Blackberry (http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/store/controller?item=phoneFirst&action=viewPhoneDetail&selectedPhoneId=5608&deviceCategoryId=10).
But it wasn’t meant to be. My tight schedule and unexpected traffic because of President Obama’s (http://www.barackobama.com/index.php) visit the night before precluded the run.
There was one bonus: I had a meeting Wednesday morning at the YMCA of Greater New York (http://ymcanyc.org/index.php). It’s at 5 West 63rd St., just a half block from Central Park West.
It’s a historic Y with guest rooms. With rates starting at $92/night, you can bet I’ll stay there next time I’m in the Big Apple (http://www.ymcanyc.org/west-side/guest-rooms/accommodations/).
And when I do, this is the Central Park roadway on which I’ll begin my morning jog. Now you see why I was so excited to run in the park!
